I have just acquired a “Web and Walk” USB modem from T-Mobile, I have 3 Gig download limit per month and have just briefly logged onto the internet for around 15 to 20 minutes, I have not downloaded anything, I have just browsed the news and read some message boards and it says I have used 10.96Mb. Does this sound right? If this is the case is there anything I can do to reduce the amount of download?

If you browsed pages with heavy load, such as big images, a lot of text, video/audio, etc. Than yes it is very well possible.
Can you reduce the amount? since you have a 3 gig cap, there’s not much you can do except don’t limit your usage by monitoring your own traffic; watch what sites you go to and when.
Use Firefox as your web browser and install the AdBlock Plus extension, then you won’t have to download and be charged for Ads on web pages.
yeup that sounds about right, but it may look like alot but 3gigs is 3000 Mbs so 11MB isn’t bad, so to reduce your download amount avoid media intensive site, ones with alot of pictures or sounds. hope this helps
Id say download opera, it uses minimal data, and even than you have the option to turn off images to reduce it even more…
There is very little you can do to reduce your download rate, besides of course simply using the Internet less. One thing you can do is turn on caching on your browser and set the cache size way, way up (no problem with having over a hundred megabytes of cache space on a modern hard drive). This will be especially effective if you tend to visit the same few sites over and over again rather than visiting new sites all the time. You can also use various user scripts (provided you have a browser that supports user scripts) to prevent large things such as images, flash files and videos from appearing on web pages in order to reduce the amount you’re downloading.
if you browse pages w/lots of java/images/etc then yes, this sounds about right.
