Hi
I’m thinking of getting one of those in-car LED displays (recently featured in Top Gear’s caravanning episode) to be able to display ‘baby on board’ and ‘keep your distance’ etc messages.
On one forum though it seemed to suggest that these may not be legal – see http://www.rllmukforum.com/index.php?showtopic=147603 – please note however that there is some profanity on this external link.
See Dj Jee’s comment on Jan 2nd at 6.13pm.
Is anyone able to confirm this / quote any legalisation that would suggest this?
Many thanks!
Ross
Chris: Sorry, forgot to say… this is in the UK. If someone could provide a piece of UK legalisation like Chris has for UK law explaining that would be perfect…
Wilfred B: Many thanks for the answer, but can you quote a source/reference for this, i.e. like Chris’s legalisation extract? Ta!

they are legal
Without knowing where you live it is impossible to answer your question.
Assuming you live within the United States, or anywhere bigger than a 3rd world country, I would say yes, it is POSSIBLY illegal.
1) Blinding, Deceptive, or Distracting lighting is a REAL charge.

One thing I really suggest is checking your LOCAL laws.
A GOOD rule of thumb is this..
If it is Red or Blue, do not display it. most EVERY state has a law about possessing red lights and blue lights even if it isnt a typical “police” light.. all it has to be is BLUE or RED.
Another good rule of thumb. If you are putting it where OTHERS can see it, its possible to be considered a “distraction”. Chances are you will not get stopped for this unless it is extremely obvious.
THERE ARE NOT LEGAL IN THE uk end of story not for private use anyway the police can use them and a few other offical bodies but completely illegal for normal use on the road
